Meet Alexi

Alexi was elected Illinois Secretary of State on November 8, 2022. He ran on a policy-driven platform with the goal of restoring trust in government.

He campaigned to modernize the office to reduce wait times, strengthen state ethics laws to curb corruption, protect voter rights and increase registration opportunities, and enhance public libraries to make learning resources more accessible – regardless of where you live.

In 2006, Alexi was elected Illinois State Treasurer, becoming the youngest State Treasurer in the nation at the age of 30.

Inspired to run by his friend and political mentor, President Barack Obama, Alexi ran as an independent Democrat and pursued a reform agenda focused on curbing ethical abuses, creating jobs, and safely investing taxpayer dollars to improve the financial futures of all Illinoisans.

After leaving the Treasurer’s Office in 2011, Alexi was appointed to serve as Chairman of the Illinois Community College System, became Senior Director at BNY Mellon Wealth Management, and taught at Northwestern University. He was also appointed to serve on the Chicago Public Library’s Board of Directors in 2018.

Alexi is the CEO & Founder of Annoula Ventures, which invests in start- ups, including many based in Illinois.

Alexi graduated cum laude from Boston University with a degree in economics and earned a law degree from Tulane University’s School of Law. He is a lifelong Chicagoan and still calls the city home along with his wife, Josephine, and their three daughters.
